Our Contribution Towards The School's High Achievers on April 13, 2012

Our Alma Mater, Anderson School held its annual Hari Anugerah Kecemerlangan 2013 (formerly known as Speech and Prize Giving Day) on Saturday 13 April in the memorable school hall. This year, our 1966/67 group was represented by Pretam Singh, Hau Kiang, and me….our good friend Keith Yoong (from SIS, Gopeng) also came along. And some members of the OAC were there too.

Pretam must be wondering: 'OMG! Who is this 'chinapek' on my right?" He has got the School tie and I don't even have one!!
This year, besides the main Economics Book Prize in honour of Dato’ Seri NS Selvamany, our group also contributed 3 special “Aungerah Khas SPM” for 3 outstanding but financially challenged students. The winner of the Economics Book Prize this year is Oliver Woo Yew Hong and the 3 special students were Jaymeer Singh, Muhamad Abdul Majid and Dominic Chong Tet Mau. The photo below featured Jameer and Dominic only as Muhamad Abdul Majid had to work. Our Pretam Singh gave away the Book Prizes for the SPM category.

For this year’s Hari Anugerah Kecemerlangan, we received a total amount of RM 5200 in donation for the various book prizes for PMR, SPM and STPM. The Pengetua, teachers and students of ASI were very appreciative and the Pengetua has asked me to convey his personal thanks and gratitude to all those who has contributed….namely Tan Sri Nuraizah Hamid, Puan Sri Raja Noora, Dato’ Salleh Yeop, Dato’ Seri Chan Sek Keong, Mr Khaw Siok Chye, Mr Ng Yook Woon, Mr Ho Fook Seng, Mr Pretam Singh. Madam Chong Pit Loo, Madam Yeh Choon Yee and Grandma Lailatool Badriah. Our Dato’ Seri Selvamany also donated this year. Many thanks for your continued support.

After the School function was over, we all adjoined to DSS's house to visit him and for cup of special Indian tea

First Get Together in 2013

A group of us gathered at Choon Yee/ Shek Seng’s residence on 28/3 to see her after she has completed her cancer treatment and with a very good report card from the oncologist in Singapore. During the short time we were there, many issues were discussed and argued upon…..these are listed below:

1. Green tea, or loong cheng should be priced at aboutt RM1 per gramme - then you will have quality in the tea!

So confusing leh!
2. Yoghurt recipe from Ah Nya! Do you still remember Pit Loo??

3. Coffee from Taman Tun;

4. In future, we will all enjoy Chairman's Lounge hospitality --- with compliments from WAK!
5. Don't leave yr maid in the house when you are away!! They will run away with your treasures!!

6. Gek Kim is now grandmother!
7. 'Ah Kau' has to babysit grandchildren! (Padan muka)
8. Find time to visit, I mean to watch 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' - a great movie according to Sharon
9. Where to get the best massage in KL!
10. Where is the best boutique hotel in Malaysia?
11. Black peanuts comes from Taiwan…not from India
12. WAK’s birthday on 29/3

Of special interest was the yoghurt recipe explained by Ah Nya and Hau Kiang’s variation…until Pit Loo was so confused and me too.

We also discovered that Gek Kim is now a grandmother…..congrats and best wishes, Gek Kim. And the betterer news is that the grand-daughter was born on 16/2/2013…another darling and angelic aquarian ….just like Uncle Hau Kiang and Uncle Sek Yee who are also fellow Aquarians. Anybody else?

Kung Hei Fatt Choi....aka... Have a Happy Healthy & Wealthy Chinese New Year!

Toong, Toong,Toong,Tooong Chiang!!!
Wah, it is the season to be merry again...and to welcome the year of the Snake very soon. May we wish you and family every happiness, good fortune and most of all, good health. As we have said before, be careful if you have to travel to visit your in laws, eat in moderation if you have to eat. When you pray, have a thought for the less fortunate and the not so well.

Let us continue to look out for each other as we edge nearer to the 7-series. I will be 66 very soon (sorry no prizes offered for guessing the correct date....the sponsor took back the Samsung S111 already).

For this CNY, me and my Ah Kat will be honeymooning in Sulabaya (a port along the Alaska coastline) from 9/2 to 15/2.

Meantime, our best wishes and please continue to be good.

Toong, Toong,Toong,Tooong Chiang!!! (whatever it means).

Uncle's Economic Resource Centre in Anderson School

As always, our Head Library Prefect!

On 16th January 2013, the staff and students of Anderson School Ipoh, and a group of old Andersonians held a unique birthday celebration for Dato’ Seri NS Selvamany in the Dewan Sekolah of Anderson School. It was an extremely rare occasion for the school to celebrate the birthday of one of its former teachers. Uncle Selvamany, who was the first Economics teacher in the country, taught in Anderson School for 20 years from 1952-1972 until he was posted to Sekolah Idris Shah, Gopeng in 1972 as the Principal.

After the various speeches (by the Pengetua, Tan Sri Nuraizah Hamid and Uncle Selvamany) were delivered, the school’s staff and Form 6 students and Librarians (together with the old Andersonians present) celebrated Uncle Selvamany’s 87th birthday with a special cake.

Later, after refreshments, the whole group took a slow nostalgic walk from the school canteen to the school’s library which is now located near to where the old hostel was for the finale of the day i.e. the Majlis Pelancaran Pusat Ekonomi Dato’ Seri NS Selvamany.

To further honour Dato’ Seri Selvamany with much love, gratitude and respect, the group of old Andersonians, with the collaboration of the Pengetua of Anderson School and his staff, inaugurated a Pusat Sumber Ekonomi Dato’ Seri NS Selvamany within the school’s library . The Pusat Sumber Ekonomi, as the name implies has been stocked with books/magazines in Economics, Business and Marketing (both in English and in Bahasa Malaysia) primarily for the benefit of Form Six Arts students and teachers as well.

The Majlis Pelancaran of the Pusat Sumber was officiated by Tan Sri Nuraizah Hamid (Andersonian 1962/1963). Other prominent old Andersonians who took time off to celebrate with Uncle Selvamany were Puan Sri Raja Noora Ashikin, Dato’ Seri Chan Sek Keong, Dato’ Salleh Yeop, Datuk Merlyn Kasimir, Tan Hau Kiang, Dato’ Lat, and Ng Yook Woon. The list is too long to elaborate.

We ended the day with a special lunch at the OAC clubhouse with further celebrations there.
