Re-connecting with Chan Lai Heng....on September 13, 2010

Chan Lai Heng met us and Pretam and Dr Raman at the Andersonians Clubhouse before we adjoined Dato
Seri Selvamany's house. Lai Heng moved back to Ipoh 3 years ago after teaching for almost 30 years in
Kampar. She and her husband, Low has 2 grown up boys working in KL...and incidentally, Pretam knows Low from their early teaching days in Raub. Currently Lai Heng and husband is managing her neice's electrical shop somewhere in Ipoh....and this have kept them very busy....one of the reasons why she does not have an email or internet connection.....nevertheless she promised to stay in touch with the group.Lai Heng still has the same hairstyle and same voice as 43 years ago!

Saying Hello to Hayatul in Ipoh

On our way back from Sungei Petani we invited ourselves to Hayatul's house in Meru Heights, on the outskirts of Ipoh. Hayatul prepared a late breakfast of nasi lemak and mee goreng....and this continued into lunch. We had a good exchange of views on Andersonian old boys matters with her husband Syed Zaharuddin, who is 4 years our senior. All her 4 sons are also Andersonians

In Sungei Petani with Zainal Abidin...... on September 12, 2010

On Sunday 12th Sept, the 3rd day of Hari Raya, we took another nostalgic trip....this time our journey was to Sungei Petani to visit another long lost classmate whom we have not seen since we left school in 1967. Wong Poh Lam and his wife came along too. After school, Zainal joined the Language Institute and later studied in UM in 1977 and he spent most of his teaching life in Bentong where he met his wife, Aliah. Later he decided that SP would be the best place to settle down....so he applied and was transferred to SP.Now he and his wife are happily retired there although their children are working in KL and one in Cairo. Altogether they have 9 grandchildren.

Zainal and his wife prepared a sumptious lunch for us as you can see from the pictures. Many thanks Zainal and Aliah

This is not a family photo guys; Look how Zainal has grown over the years!
The 2 young boys standing on either side (I mean the really young ones!) are Mahanum's adopted children from her orphanage.

Our 'Boss' not entirely convinced by Poh Lam's way of enhancing 'chi'!

Sek Yee's Raya Journey.......Tea with Cikgu Puteri Asmah

From Ramli Hassan's house, we adjourned to a nearby Cafe and had teh tarik with Cikgu Puteri Asma....Cikgu looks well and this time aound she was rather chatty, especially with Pretam as they exchange stories about different teachers that they know, etc and Kalwant (Pretam's boss), being a matron in the Ipoh General Hospital,  promised to help assist Cikgu with her eye problems should she seek treatment in the General Hospital.

Hari Raya with Ramli Hassan in Ipoh.......on September 11, 2010

"As we drove to Rapat Setia, Ipoh this morning (11/9) to look for Ramli Hassan, it was extremely nostalgic for us as it is not very often you get to meet someone after 43 years. We had to call him several times to locate the house and when we arrived, he was standing outside waiting for us. Pretam Singh and his wife Kalwant arrived about 10 mins later. Before and during breakfast we sembang over school times and the years after that. Ramli was working in Mardi his whole life until he opted for early retirement in 1991.He spent most of his retirement years in Teluk Intan and it was about 2 years ago that he moved to Ipoh where 2 of his three daughters are working. And it was through the Facebook activities of his eldest daughter that caught the attention of our dectective Hamzah. That was how we got to be re-connected with him"
